[Track & Field] Hawks Close Out Solid Indoor SeasonPublished by
Kenosha, WI - On Friday, March 7th, the Illinois Tech Men's and Women's Track teams competed at the "Gill Athletics Final Qualifier" hosted by Carthage College. The Scarlet Hawks fared well, turning in 4 top 3 finishes and 6 school records. While Anne Crotteau picked up a win in the 3.000m, setting a personal best on the way, with 11:11.49, April Wanagas finished third in the 800m, 2:28.74. In the field events Joe Yassin improved his school record in the Shot Put, throwing the 16lb implement 13.76m. Teva Venet added some distance to his Triple Jump, extending the measuring tape to 12.67m. Andrew Montague, a senior from Downers Grove, IL finished third in the mile with a time of 4:28.09 setting a school record. Tyler Haag dipped under 24 seconds for the first time in the 200m, 23.97 improving his own school record. Phillip Cano finished 4th in the 400m with another record breaking performance, 53.24. Phillip Cano, Mitch Martyr, Tyler Haag and Ethan Montague teamed up and won the meet's last event, the 4 x 400m Relay, in a 3:34.36 school record. This meet concluded the indoor season. "I feel very good about how things are going so far. Although short, we improved 17 school records this season. Our track & Field program has seen improvements during this indoor season and we are looking forward to continuing this momentum in the outdoor season."
